Trust is the only currency a newsroom has. This page describes the standards every story on abroadxo must meet before publication.

Independence

Our journalism is produced independently of advertisers and commercial partners. No advertiser, sponsor or commerce partner sees, approves or rejects editorial content. Stories are commissioned by editors, assigned to writers, and published because they deserve to exist.

When our shopping coverage contains links from which we may earn a commission, the choices remain the writer's; commission eligibility never determines what we recommend. If we would not recommend it for free, we do not recommend it at all.

Sourcing and evidence

We rely on primary sources wherever possible: legislation, filings, peer-reviewed research, technical documentation and on-record interviews. When we cite secondary reporting, we name it. Anonymous sources are used only when information could not be obtained on the record, and every anonymous claim is corroborated independently before publication.

  • Numbers are checked against their original source, not a headline.
  • Scientific claims are reported with the study's size, limits and publication status.
  • Prices and specifications are dated, because markets move.

Writing standards

We write in clear English, for readers who are smart and busy. We do not publish clickbait headlines, misleading deks or stories padded beyond their news. If a piece says “what you need to know”, it will tell you what you need to know.

Corrections

Mistakes happen; hiding them is a choice. If you believe we have published something wrong, email [email protected] with the story link and, if possible, the source that contradicts us.

Verified factual errors are corrected in the story, and a dated correction note is appended to the bottom of the article explaining what changed. We do not silently edit substantive claims.

Updates

Developing stories are updated in place with the new information dated. Evergreen guides are reviewed at least annually; the review date is shown where it matters.

Artificial intelligence

We experiment with AI tools the way we report on them: carefully. Drafting, research and summarisation tools may assist our writers, but every published sentence is reviewed, verified and owned by a named human author. We do not publish fully automated articles, and we label AI-generated images as illustrations rather than photographs.
