Privacy Policy
How abroadxo collects, uses and protects information, including cookies and third-party advertising.
This Privacy Policy explains what information abroadxo (operated by Abroadxo Media Ltd., “we”, “us”) collects when you visit abroadxo.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain English on purpose.
Information we collect
Like almost every website, our servers automatically receive standard technical information when you visit: your IP address (truncated where required by law), browser type and version, device type, referring page, the pages you request, and the date and time of each request. This is “log data” and it exists to keep the site secure, debug problems, and understand aggregate traffic patterns.
If you contact us by email or through the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you provide. We use it only to reply, and to keep a record of the conversation.
We do not require an account to read abroadxo, and we do not ask readers for payment details or government identifiers.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device. We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes: keeping the site working (strictly necessary cookies, such as remembering your cookie consent), understanding aggregate usage through analytics, and supporting advertising.
You can control cookies through your browser settings at any time; see your browser's help pages for instructions. Blocking all cookies may affect how parts of the site function. For a fuller description of the cookies we use, see our Cookie Policy.
Advertising and third-party partners
This site is supported by advertising. We serve ads through Google Ad Manager and Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
What that means in practice
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com.
- You can opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or, in the EEA/UK, via youradchoices.eu.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent banner before non-essential cookies are set, in line with GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.
Where required, we act as the data controller for our first-party log and contact data, and as a joint controller with Google for the cookies described in Google's EU user consent policy.
Analytics
We use privacy-conscious, aggregate analytics to count page views and understand which stories are read. Analytics data is reported in aggregate; we do not build individual reader profiles for editorial purposes.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, including: the right to access it; the right to correct it; the right to delete it; the right to object to or restrict certain processing; the right to data portability; and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. Residents of California may exercise rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to opt out of “sharing” and “selling” of personal information — we do not sell personal information as that term is defined by California law.
To exercise any right, email [email protected] with the subject line “Data Request”. We respond within 30 days.
Data retention and security
Log data is retained for a limited period and then aggregated or deleted. Contact emails are kept while the conversation is active and for up to 24 months afterward. We use HTTPS across the site and keep access to our systems limited to staff who need it.
Children
abroadxo is written for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our servers and service providers may be located in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers of personal data are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in law or our practices. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated date. This policy is effective as of the date shown at the top of this page.
